Bio

Bianca Catbagan is a Filipino director & photographer based in Los Angeles. She heads development at the independent film collective Indie Pop Films and volunteers her time at Cinema Sala, a platform that showcases Filipinx work in film and the performing arts. She was most recently the Audio Series and Originals Coordinator of The Gotham Film & Media Institute (formerly IFP). Her screenplay, 2AM in Tokyo, is one of the projects selected for the Torino Film Lab’s Next Feature. She received her MFA in Directing and Screenwriting from Columbia University.

She was a Cinematography Fellow at the CHANEL X BIFF Asian Film Academy and a participant at the Reykjavik International Film Festival’s Talent Lab where her film Paraluman was nominated for a Golden Egg. Her films have screened at numerous international festivals including Outfest Fusion, the Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival Festival, Asian American International Film Festival in New York, Seattle Asian Film Festival, Micheaux Film Festival and the Bogotá Music Video Festival. She won a production grant from the inaugural Cinematografo Film Festival where her film premiered as one of the festival’s centerpieces, screening to a sold out audience in San Francisco.

As a photographer, Bianca’s films are visually driven and place emphasis on the faces and stories of women. Her love for the image has brought her behind the scenes of films, fashion shows, and music festivals, working at different events like New York Fashion Week, Philippine Fashion Week, The Governors Ball Music Festival, and Life is Beautiful Music Festival. She shoots on both film and digital but prefers her Canon AE-1.
